On Friday, 12 June 2026, the Institute of Mechanical Engineering invites you to experience research and innovation up close. Under the motto "Backstage in Mechanical Engineering", the Y-building will open its doors to the public and provide insights into current projects, laboratories and pioneering ideas. The programme offers a mixture of information and interaction for all age groups.
The day begins at 2 p.m. with the "Imagination Machines" programme, which is aimed specifically at children between the ages of 3 and 10. The youngest visitors are introduced to technical issues through playful activities. From 5.00 p.m. onwards, the programme will be extended to the general public, alumni and prospective students. In addition to stands from research and teaching as well as personal advice on the various study programmes in Mechanical Engineering, the focus is on numerous hands-on activities that make technology a direct experience.
Visitors can explore the various stations and talk to the researchers until 11.00 p.m. Food trucks will be available on the site for catering.
