New impetus at the NIWI: Tamino Donner joins the team - strategy conference in Kassel brings fresh perspectives

We are delighted to welcome Tamino Donner as a new research associate with a doctoral project at the NIWI. With a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Paderborn University and a thesis on the development of AI-based, decentralised control strategies for fifth-generation heating networks, Mr Donner brings sound technical expertise and a spirit of innovation to the table. His doctorate is dedicated to researching innovative control concepts for thermal energy networks - a highly relevant topic for sustainable energy supply. In addition to his research activities, he is involved in the UPB for Future working group and supports teaching at the Chair.

He is particularly interested in the sustainable transformation of the energy sector. As thermal processes account for around half of Europe's energy consumption - most of which is still fossil-based - Mr Donner sees the optimisation of generation and distribution as a key lever for achieving global climate targets. He would like to make an active contribution to this with his work.

Another highlight at the NIWI was the strategy conference on 28 and 29 April 2025 in Kassel. Two inspiring days full of dialogue, strategic discussions and valuable impulses not only strengthened our research agenda, but also team cohesion. Current projects were presented at the doctoral seminar and discussed further in an open atmosphere. A joint team event rounded off the programme and provided space for collegial exchange.

We can look back on some insightful days and look forward to working together with Tamino Donner and to many more exciting developments in research and teaching!
